Slingshot Phase III Hitch & Receiver Installation
Tools needed: Jack, socket wrench, extension bars, 15 mm socket, 17 mm socket, 19 mm socket, torque wrench, #40 Torx tool, and breaker bar.
- Park the Slingshot on a flat surface.
- Chock the front wheels for safety.
- Put the transmission in neutral and release the emergency brake.
- Raise the rear wheel slightly so it can turn by hand.
- Remove the belt guard using the three #40 Torx screws.
- Remove the 2 shock bolts one at a time.
- Remove the original caliper bolt. You will not reuse it.
- Position the receiver and align it with the new longer caliper bolt. Install the supplied star washer and hand-tighten only at this stage.
- Install the new longer shock bolts one at a time, inserting them toward the tire.
- Align the shock bolts with the receiver holes, push them through, and install the star washers and nuts.
- Tighten all three caliper and shock bolts to 60 ft-lbs with a torque wrench.
- Reinstall the belt cover.
- Insert the male hitch portion with the ball into the receiver, then install the pin and retaining clip.
- Set the emergency brake, lower the Slingshot, and remove the jack.
- Install the hitch tightener. This is mandatory to comply with the warranty.
Important note: Torque all three nuts and the caliper bolt to 60 ft-lbs.
